That’s right. We’re on MTV now.
…kinda…
Check us out on episode 8 of My Life as Liz, MTV’s hot new teen drama. At around 00:33 in the opening montage listen for 30 seconds or so of a highly edited version of our college radio hit, Fargo. Then mark your calendar for this Friday, March 5, when we play Sauce with These Modern Socks and the Sextons.

This weekend The Small Cities bring the rock to some other cities. Friday night we play The 2nd Annual Midwest Music Festival at UW Parkside in Kenosha. It was fun last last year, so it ought to be twice as fun this year. Then Saturday we are humbled to play the Muzzle of Bees 5 year anniversary show with the Daredevil Christopher Wright and others at the Cactus Club in Milwaukee. If you’re anywhere near either of these shows, then you should seriously consider stopping by and saying “Hi”. And letting us stay on your couch.

Sunday, Nov 12th we’ll be playing the Turf Club with Ben Kyle, Chris Koza, John Hermanson, Linnea Mohn and Wes Burdine. Needless to say, we’re pretty excited. The show is a benefit/fund raiser for an ambitious recording project for Mercy Seat Lutheran. Local music luminaries, including all those listed above, have met (or accepted) the creative challenge of composing original settings of the old Lutheran liturgies. The results so far have been stunning. From loungy Jazz to mournful alt-contry; from Beach Boysy pop to textured ambience a-la Sigur Ros. They really are that good.
Now we just need to get them down on tape.
The recording will be done at Ben Kyle’s Slow Studios in MPLS. The Turf Club has been cool enough to give the Church the whole door charge ($6). We just need to get everybody our buying their tasty adult beverages to make it worth their while. So come out.
Bonus: there will be Christmas songs. Bounce over to our Facebook page and suggest a song for us to learn.

Last night was swell. Just swell. We played the 501 with Red Daughters and The Van Gobots. The crowd was great (you guys are the bestest). Highlight: Leif zinging David with this one…
Q: What do a drum solo and a sneeze have in common?
A: You know they’re comming – but there’s nothing you can do about it.
Zing!
See you all at the Turf on 12/13 with Ben Kyle (Romantica), Chris Koza, John Hermanson (the Hopefulls, Story Hill, Alva Star), Wes Burdine (Wes Burdine and the Librarians) and Linnea Mohn of Coach Said Not To and Alpha Centauri. It’s a benefit for an ambitious recording project for Mercy Seat. Don’t miss it!

So I suppose this super generic blog will have to do while we figuere out how to build a proper site.
Tonight at 9:00 you should all go to the Turf Club (University and Snelling). We play first, then the other two bands: Farewell Milwaukee and the Crossing Guards, both of which are releasing cds. We’re super stoked that they chose to have us along since it will no doubt be an awesome party.
And come back here once in a while to see if I ever get around to building a real live web site.
Peace!
